Mark L. Wilt

The Post is named in respect of Mark L. Wilt, a local citizen who was killed on November 2, 1918, while serving his country in France near the end of World War I. Mark was born August 6, 1894 in Jerome, Michigan. He moved with his family to Goshen, Indiana in 1910, where he assisted his father, Wilson Wilt, who owned a grocery store in Goshen. Mark would often make home deliveries using his bicycle,
and that soon became the trademark of the store. Mark graduated from Goshen High School in 1914. In 1915, he entered the American School of Osteopathy at Kirksville, MO. In 1918, he took his state board examination and passed. On April 20, 1918 he entered the service as a Missouri National Army Contingent. Mark was killed in action during World War I. Mark was also a member of the First Reformed Church and belonged to the Iota Tau Sigma Medical fraternity.

The Mark L. Wilt Post 210 Timeline
1921 Post 210 formed with Melvin Teters as the first Post Commander. The Post is named after Mark L. WIlt, a local cititzen who was killed near the end of World War I. At first the Post did not have a Post Home or a regular meeting location. Eventually, they began to meet and hold social functions upstairs of the old Post Office located on the corner of South Main and Berry streets. This is the present location of the First State Bank.
1946 The Post moved upstairs of the present day building at 104 South Main Street
1968 The Post members began raising funds for their own Post Home.
1969 With the help of Lester Christy, who made the property available for a Post Home, the members completed construction of their present building.
1980 The great hall portion of the Post was enlarged.
1983 The TV Room was added; the Canteen area was enlarged; Post office and the hall kitchen were added.
1993 A new kitchen, restrooms and storage area were added to the Great Hall.
1996 Twelve lighted Horse Shoe pits, with the area being used 2 nights per week during the summer in league play. Professional competitions are held several times during the summer.
1996 Lighted rear parking lot and pavilion with restrooms were added.
